Tuesday Trivia

Eric got a song stuck in my head tonight.  You know the one, “Hello Muddah, hello Fadduh. Here I am at Camp Grenada…”  Here are some facts about that song…

~ “Hello Mudda, Hello Fadduh” is the Grammy-winning novelty song based on letters Allan Sherman received from his son attending Camp Champlain, New York.

~ After the song reached #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 for three weeks beginning August 24, 1963, Sherman wrote a new “back at Camp Granada” version for a May 27, 1964 performance on the The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.

~ Variations of the song include translations in Swedish, Finnish, Norwegian and Dutch.

~ In addition to the Grammy Award, the song is #8 on the list of 100 Greatest Novelty Songs.

Now, for your listening pleasure…

Yesterday at church we had children’s baptisms.  My sister-in-law, along with all of the volunteers, spent countless hours getting everything ready and did an amazing job with the event!  About half an hour before the festivities were to begin, Jessi came up to Eric to see if the parking team helped with cars exiting from the second service.  His answer was no.  So Jessi asked if he would help demonstrate the baptism process to the kids.  His answer was yes, although he did not realize at the time that he would be getting dunked (he thought it was a dry demonstration).  So yesterday, Eric got baptized again!  There was one little girl who was getting baptized, but she had a cast on her leg.  Since Eric was already wet from the demonstration, Jessi asked if he would help with the girl.  So Eric carried her into the tank so her cast would not get wet and helped Jay baptize her.  Eric didn’t have a change of clothes with him, so we stayed for the rest of the event while he dried off a bit.  It was such a fantastic celebration and it was just awesome to see a couple dozen kids publicly proclaim their faith in Jesus!  Quite the exciting day for my wonderful husband!

Apple Cider & Wordle

Last night Eric met a friend at Starbucks to help him study for an upcoming engineering test, so I tagged along!  I was able to enjoy one of my favorite fall drinks: Caramel Apple Cider.  Oh my, was it delicious!  I think I may have to invest in a bottle of their caramel sauce so I can make my own at home!

I also found a cool website called Wordle.  You can enter a bunch of text or a blog/website and it will create a word picture based on the most used words in the selected text.  I entered my blog into the site and the picture below was created.

I’m Married Again!

Well, it has been nearly eight months since I injured my finger and had to get my wedding band cut off.  After a few months of physical therapy and exercising the finger, I think the knuckle has healed as much as it’s going to, so on Saturday I finally got my wedding band fixed and my engagement ring re-sized!  Eric and I went to the jeweler Saturday morning and expected to have to wait at least three weeks to get the rings back, but we had them by Saturday evening.  They had to make the rings a whole size and a quarter bigger than they originally were, but I’m so glad to have them back!

While at Dollywood last week, we passed by a stand that was making homemade ice cream.  On the wall was a list of ice cream facts, so I snapped a pic to use for today’s trivia.  Enjoy!

~ Ice cream was introduced in the America’s in the 1600s.

~ America’s first ice cream parlor was opened in 1776 in New York City.

~ Early ice cream was flavored with whatever was available, such as ginger and cucumbers.

~ Jacob Fussell first commercially produced ice cream in Baltimore.  His business was so successful he later opened plants in Washington, D.C., Boston and New York in the mid 1880s.

~ As late as 1890, ice cream was commercially produced by hand crank freezers.

~ 5 parts ice to 1 part rock salt produces a brine solution with temperatures of 8 to 12 degrees Fahrenheit.  This temperature freezes the cream quickly, which is essential for producing smooth, creamy ice cream.

One of my favorite ice cream flavors is Phish Food by Ben and Jerry’s.  Chocolate ice cream, marshmallow and caramel swirls with chocolate chunks shaped like fish….yummo!

What is your favorite ice cream flavor?

~ The park was originally named Silver Dollar City.  Dolly Parton, who was raised in the Smokey Mountains, purchased the park and changed the name to Dollywood.

~ Dolly has an apartment in the park, located above Apple Jack’s restaurant, which she uses to relax in while visiting the park.

~ Sweet Dreams is the candy shop in the park.  Dolly used to beg her sister, Willadene, to make her candy every day.  Dolly’s family was so poor they couldn’t afford it, so Willadene told Dolly that she would just have to have sweet dreams instead.

A couple weeks ago I went up to Arlington for a reunion with my girl friends from SMC.  We had a fabulous weekend hanging out in Baltimore (while waiting for people to fly in) and in D.C.  We started our day in D.C. at the Holocaust Memorial Museum where Abby was our personal tour guide.  The rest of the day was spent walking around to see all of the monuments and memorials.  Here are a few pictures from the weekend:

P.S. – The t-shirts were 5 for $10.  Who could pass up a $2 t-shirt??  And yes, we received many comments throughout the day because of them!
